EFFECTIVENESS OF INSTRUMENT ASSISTED SOFT TISSUE MOBILIZATION (IASTM) ON POST-OPERATIVE KNEE STIFFNESS: A CASE STUDY

Dr. Ram Mehar Kangra, Dr Ruchi

Abstract

Knee stiffness present after surgeries and accidental trauma, prolonged immobilization, and is a common complication and challenging to manage.
The knee stiffness is the major cause of pain, decreases ROM, and affects the functional activities. The IASTM has limited evidence in knee
rehabilitation. The aim of this study is to nd out the effect of IASTM on postoperative knee stiffness. To determine the effectiveness of IASTM
with exercises in improving ROM, pain, strength, and function activities. A 35 year-old male, diagnosed with post-operation left knee stiffness
complaining of pain in left knee, restricted ROM, and affected his functional activities. After 2 month of physiotherapy treatment, which result
signicantly improved in outcome score post intervention. The improvements in pain and his functional activities and decrease stiffness. This study
is concluded that IASTM with exercise effective in improving outcomes in postoperative knee stiffness.
